When an Injury Keeps Getting in the Way

You didn't stop because you wanted to. Whether it was a game, a workout, or just moving through your week, something gave out, and now you're on the sideline trying to figure out what comes next.

Maybe it happened suddenly. Maybe it crept up over weeks until it was too hard to ignore. Either way, getting assessed early helps set you up for a smoother recovery and a clearer path back to what you want to be doing.

What Does Physiotherapy Do?

Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession focused on assessing and treating injuries and conditions that affect how your body moves. A physiotherapist works to assess and identify the root cause of your pain or limitation, not just the symptoms, and builds a treatment plan to address it.

At ACCEL's Dartmouth clinic, physiotherapy draws on manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and sport-specific movement analysis. Where appropriate, adjunctive therapies including dry needling and acupuncture are incorporated into treatment. It is the right fit for acute injuries, post-surgical recovery, persistent pain, and return-to-sport programs.

A Dartmouth Physiotherapy Team Built Around Sport

ACCEL's Dartmouth physiotherapy team brings together four practitioners with exceptional credentials in sport physiotherapy.

Cassy Archibald, PT, holds a Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy and has provided coverage at the IIHF World Juniors, U18 Women's World Championships, and Hockey Canada national training camps, and currently serves as team physiotherapist for the Dartmouth Steele Subaru U18 Major Hockey team.

Meredith Waisman, PT, holds a Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy and High Performance Certification from Sport Science Canada, and has worked with Hockey Nova Scotia's high performance provincial teams, the IIHF World Juniors, and multiple Canada Games.

Carter Piercey, PT, has provided physiotherapy coverage for major professional hockey teams.

Karen Decker, PT, BScPT, BScKin, FCAMPT, is the founding physiotherapist of ACCEL and one of Canada's most decorated sport physiotherapists. She holds Diplomas in both Sport Physiotherapy and Manual and Manipulative Therapy, has attended the Olympic Games in Athens, Beijing, and PyeongChang as part of the Canadian Health Care Team, competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, and has worked with Hockey Canada, Hockey Nova Scotia, and Soccer Nova Scotia across six Canada Games, including as Polyclinic Manager and Lead Physiotherapist for the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

That depth of sport experience, available at our Dartmouth location, is what sets ACCEL apart from a general physiotherapy clinic. Whatever your level of competition or activity, someone on this team has worked at that level.

ACCEL is also a multi-disciplinary clinic, so when your recovery calls for chiropractic care, massage therapy, osteopathy, acupuncture, or performance testing alongside physiotherapy, that is available in the same building.
